We are very excited to share that, for the second time, we have the opportunity to participate in the UN Ocean Decade Conference, this time taking place in Nice from June 9th to 13th. On this occasion, UNESCO will present a book in which we contributed a chapter about the work we do in Mexico. We are also preparing two events during the conference framework: one with an artistic approach at a gallery, and another focused on the local community, which will take place outdoors.
Afterward, we will travel to the city of Brest (also in France), where we have been accepted to present at the World Ocean Conference 2025 with a poster on “Engaging Communities in Conservation with Low-Cost Passive Acoustic Monitoring Sensors,” as well as a collaboration with UNESCO for the “Ocean Decade Manual For Non-Governmental Organizations.”
Attending these events is a crucial step for our organization because it provides us with a platform to showcase our work, learn from experts, and strengthen our network. However, as a nonprofit, our resources are limited.
We are based in Cancun but fortunately, another project will take us to Spain, which significantly reduces our costs, but we still need to cover:
Gallery space rental in Nice, France
Exhibition materials for the event in Nice
Ground and air transportation (Madrid – Nice – Brest – Madrid)
Accommodation for 7 nights in Nice, France
Accommodation for 6 nights in Brest, France
Accommodation for 2 nights in Madrid, Spain
Additional materials required for the exhibition
Every contribution (whether large or small) plays a vital role in making this journey possible. Your support will be used directly to fund our team’s transportation and accommodation throughout Spain and France, as well as the production and installation of exhibition materials. These funds are not just covering logistical needs; they are helping us share our message, connect with international audiences, and represent our region on a global stage. By contributing, you become part of our mission to amplify art, science, and community through meaningful participation in these international events.
For us, attending the UN Ocean Conference in Nice and the World Ocean Conference in Brest is more than just participating in an event; it’s an opportunity to represent the Mexican Caribbean and make a real impact on the future of our region.
Thank you once again for supporting Ocean World of Sound!Together, we can amplify the voice of the ocean
About Ocean World of Sound (WOS):
Ocean World of Sound (WOS) is the first Acoustic Monitoring program in the Mesoamerican Reef. We are a nonprofit initiative created in Cancún. Since 2010, we have been using acoustic monitoring to understand marine life and the impact of human activities on the ecosystem. With this information, we help institutions make informed decisions to protect our seas.
We also seek to inspire people to connect with the ocean and promote its conservation through science, art, and education (Ocean Literacy), turning the community into an active part of the solution.
