This year, our work gave voice to the Ocean, from the Maldives to the Mexican Caribbean. We amplified marine soundscapes at global forums like the UN Ocean Conference and contributed to an international book on ocean literacy with UNESCO and Springer Nature. Most importantly, we deepened our connection with communities through science, sound, and creativity.
As you know, we use Passive Acoustic Monitoring to listen to the ocean, “literally”. Listening to the reef helps resource managers and communities protect marine life and inform better policies.
Next year, our goal is to update and conduct maintenance on our flagship station, “The Listener,” located in Cancun. This beautiful underwater sculpture created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor was conceived, in collaboration with WOS founder Heather Spence, to house an acoustic recorder that monitors its surroundings. But this key feature requires regular maintenance and an update due to changes in technology since the sculpture’s installation almost two decades ago.
Each visit costs 500 USD. Our goal is to raise 6,000 USD to keep The Listener active all year long. Your donation helps us have a monthly maintenance visit. The cost includes:

About Ocean World of Sound (WOS):
Ocean World of Sound (WOS) is the first Acoustic Monitoring program in the Mesoamerican Reef. We are a nonprofit initiative created in Cancún. Since 2010, we have been using acoustic monitoring to understand marine life and the impact of human activities on the ecosystem. With this information, we help institutions make informed decisions to protect our seas.
We also seek to inspire people to connect with the ocean and promote its conservation through science, art, and education (Ocean Literacy), turning the community into an active part of the solution.
**Our fiscal sponsor Michelle´s Earth Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Arlington, VA USA, run by volunteers so donations go directly to projects. Donations are tax deductible – please consult a tax professional for further details
